The Art of Gardening

Ballard - Swansons pots - 10

Shopping for plants, seeds and garden tools can turn into a browse through an art gallery, or a photo shoot for me. While my daughter and mother were selecting plants last weekend, I found myself gazing at a wonderful array of colors, shapes, and patterns. Along with shots of individual flowers, I tried composing images among the jumble of assorted sizes, shapes, and colors of pots, planters, fountains, birdbaths, etc.
After uploading and editing, I decided I needed more. Yesterday afternoon we combined exercise, more garden supply shopping, and photo shoot with a walk back to the garden center, lingering until they closed the gates and my memory stick was full.
Very few days have gone by without taking photos since I arrived at this sabbatical oasis in February. The vast majority have been in the yard and garden surrounding the cottage, many in the neighborhoods of the cottage and my daughter's house. Of course, have to take lots of the grandson, and a only a few have come from our excursions to typical tourist experiences such as the tulip festival.
When the artist's eye is at work, the camera at hand, and the spirit engaged, almost any place can be a photo studio and any time a photo opp - and an expression of "prayer without ceasing."

Tulip Festival

Four generations visited the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival on a gorgeous afternoon. Yes, four. 3 in front of the lens + 1 behind = 4.
The intensity of hundreds of acres of color vividly shimmering across the horizon just had to be experienced in person. Photos just can't do justice to the beauty of either single or massed flowers - but I tried!
